The increased gear‑load capacity of higher‑performance gear drives enables smaller gear units and bearings, thanks to improvements in material quality and manufacturing precision. As a result, power can now be transmitted through more compact assemblies. However, to manage heat, the gearbox must keep oil temperatures below 90°C. Without integrated thermal management, this can become a limiting factor when selecting equipment, particularly in high‑ambient conditions. David Brown Santasalo’s CX series offers an ideal solution. Product design is reversible.
In modern manufacturing environments, minimizing downtime is a critical priority. Optimize Contracts for Difference
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a computer-based model of the Cx gearbox that enables us to simulate airflow over the enclosure’s external surfaces. This is advantageous because it demonstrates that, by designing radiators to manage airflow across the enclosure and balancing the fans to optimize air velocity, we can better manage thermal performance, resulting in more efficient cooling.
FEA Virtual Lubrication System
To optimize the power-to-weight ratio, we employ finite element analysis (FEA). We create a computational model of the component and discretize it into a fine mesh of small elements. From there, we apply loads to the model, and the software computes the deformation of each element and the stress levels at every corner. Based on this data, we can determine that thinner wall thicknesses can be used, resulting in reduced weight and improved heat transfer.
Simple lubrication system
Our CX series is a self-contained system that enables the gearbox to operate at multiple speeds without requiring additional lubrication. To ensure it can withstand a wide range of temperatures, we have subjected the CX series to rigorous testing, including simulated cold‑start conditions. Thanks to a fully independent internal splash‑lubrication system, the CX series gearboxes maintain effective cooling even under demanding operating conditions.
